I’m a Virtual Assistant Now!

(*Eleventh Doctor voice*) Virtual assistants are cool.

Good morning, friends, and Happy Second Monday of 2022! This is my first blog post of the new year, and I’m very excited about it…because today I’m announcing my new business venture! I’ve been preparing for this for several weeks; in fact, I announced it a few days ahead of time to my newsletter subscribers. But now it’s time to share the details with the rest of the world.

First, the story–because there’s always a story. Back in August, it became apparent that I would need a second job in 2022, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Well, that’s not quite true: I did know I wanted to work from home. But what would that look like? I did a lot of research (amid publishing Operation Lionhearted), and the more I studied, the more interested I became in virtual assistance.

Then, in late October, I discovered the International Association of Professions Career College. Amazingly, IAP College was not only offering their course in virtual assistance at a discount, but the course was set to begin in less than a week. Needless to say, the Lord’s leading was undeniable!

I completed the training course in 7 weeks, just in time for Christmas break. I now have my certificate, my membership with the International Association of Professional Virtual Assistants, and, as of today, a public page on my website advertising my services as a virtual assistant.

So, before I go any further, let me answer the big question: “What is a virtual assistant, exactly?” Well, in many ways, a virtual assistant provides the same services as a secretary or a personal assistant–but he or she does it all from home and on a contractual basis, rather than as an employee.

Now I anticipate a second question: “Does this mean you won’t be blogging about movies, books, and writing anymore?” The answer to that question is: “Don’t worry–this blog isn’t going anywhere.” A Writer’s Tale is still one of my favorite creative outlets, and I have a lot of fun posts planned for the next couple of months. I will talk about my business here and there (and I’ll definitely be promoting it on my social media platforms), but the primary focus of my blog remains “Celebrating Story, Christ, and Craft.”
