(*Eleventh Doctor voice*) Virtual assistants are cool.

Good morning, friends, and Happy Second Monday of 2022! This is my first blog post of the new year, and I’m very excited about it…because today I’m announcing my new business venture! I’ve been preparing for this for several weeks; in fact, I announced it a few days ahead of time to my newsletter subscribers. But now it’s time to share the details with the rest of the world.
First, the story–because there’s always a story. Back in August, it became apparent that I would need a second job in 2022, but I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do. Well, that’s not quite true: I did know I wanted to work from home. But what would that look like? I did a lot of research (amid publishing Operation Lionhearted), and the more I studied, the more interested I became in virtual assistance.
Then, in late October, I discovered the International Association of Professions Career College. Amazingly, IAP College was not only offering their course in virtual assistance at a discount, but the course was set to begin in less than a week. Needless to say, the Lord’s leading was undeniable!
I completed the training course in 7 weeks, just in time for Christmas break. I now have my certificate, my membership with the International Association of Professional Virtual Assistants, and, as of today, a public page on my website advertising my services as a virtual assistant.

So, before I go any further, let me answer the big question: “What is a virtual assistant, exactly?” Well, in many ways, a virtual assistant provides the same services as a secretary or a personal assistant–but he or she does it all from home and on a contractual basis, rather than as an employee.
In my case, I’d love to work with my fellow creatives and/or small business owners who need extra time to pursue their projects and goals. Whether you’re…
- an author
- an influencer
- a photographer
- an Etsy store owner
- or an entrepreneur with a flourishing business but very little extra time on your hands…
…I can help you…
- manage your social media accounts
- create graphics on Canva to post on your social media
- design and/or regularly update a WordPress site for your business
- respond to email inquiries about your business
- create spreadsheets and forms
- edit and proofread business materials, blog posts, etc.
- design and update your email newsletter
- conduct research for a project or about a product…
…saving you enormous amounts of time and money in the long run!

I have several different “packages” for you to choose from, all at a 10% “open for business” discount from now till March 10, and all are customizable for you and your specific needs. Maybe you just need an hour of assistance a week. Maybe you need advanced, consistent help the first month, and considerably less the next month–or maybe you just need a website. Whatever the case, I’d love to chat with you and see how I can help! And hey–maybe you don’t need a virtual assistant, but you know someone else who does. Feel free to share this information with them, as well!
Now I anticipate a second question: “Does this mean you won’t be blogging about movies, books, and writing anymore?” The answer to that question is: “Don’t worry–this blog isn’t going anywhere.” A Writer’s Tale is still one of my favorite creative outlets, and I have a lot of fun posts planned for the next couple of months. I will talk about my business here and there (and I’ll definitely be promoting it on my social media platforms), but the primary focus of my blog remains “Celebrating Story, Christ, and Craft.”
Well, I think that’s all I wanted to say today…but I hope you’ll stop by my Virtual Assistance page and check it out! 2022 is shaping up to be a year of new opportunities, and this new adventure is one of them. I can’t wait to see where it leads!
Congrats, Maribeth! This is a big accomplishment, and I’m so excited for you! ❤

Good luck on your new venture.
You might consider adding ‘help with Amazon and/or Facebook ads’ to your services some day – that’s what I need. I’m not alone. All the other things are useful and necessary, but someone has to do the marketing, and it isn’t me very well right now.

That is definitely something I hope to add to my services! I myself don’t have much experience with it right now, but it’s something I plan on learning and offering sooner rather than later. That’s one of the things about being a VA: you’re constantly learning new things, both for yourself and for your clients!

I assume you are marketing your own books – I wish I had the energy to do more there AND that I had an easier-to-market novel trilogy.
Without marketing, a book is shouted into the deep of a dense dark forest. With marketing, maybe it can pay a few bills.
