The Five Things Tag

I’ve been keeping this tag for one of those weeks where I’m too busy to blog, soooooooo…after a week of Camp NaNoWriMo, shopping, visits from friends, and a nasty cold, here ya go 😉

Five things you’ll find in my bag:

ONE: A notebook (a writer must never be without her notebook, which is precisely why I only buy purses that are big enough to hold one)

TWO: Peppermints

THREE: A pack of Kleenex (because you never know when a Dumbo trailer might sucker-punch your emotions)

FOUR: My flashlight

FIVE: At least One (1) Instrument of Self-Defense

Five things you’ll find in my bedroom:

ONE: One or more of my sisters (inevitable, when six girls share a room!)

TWO: My BB-8 plushie

THREE: My little sisters’ Greatest Showman-style top hats

FOUR: The white-and-blue teacup I bought in England commemorating Prince George of Cambridge’s birth

FIVE: A framed photo of our cat, Aravis

Five things I’ve always wanted to do:

ONE: Dye my hair, just once and just for fun, for my thirtieth birthday

TWO: Attend a Comic-Con and cosplay as one of my fictional heroines

My 2-year-old niece-in-law actually thought my Mary Poppins FunkoPOP was ME! In all seriousness, I consider it one of the sweetest compliments ever bestowed upon me–and clearly it’s a sign that I should cosplay as Mary Poppins one day.

THREE: Go back to England

FOUR: Go to the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum

FIVE: Take singing lessons

Five things that make me feel happy:

ONE: Knowing I’m going to be auntie to a precious baby girl in a few months!!! (I love you with all my heart already, Baby Paris.)

TWO: The encouragement given to me every week by Joy Clarkson’s podcast to pursue excellence, nurture my imagination, and delight in the abundant goodness of God

THREE: Seeing my FunkoPOPs every morning when I sit down to write (Mary Poppins and Missy are my newest additions)

My wee Time Ladies rule the roost these days.

FOUR: SPRINGTIME

FIVE: Two fried eggs and a buttered slice of Trim Healthy Mama bread

Five things I’m currently into:

ONE: Walking up and down the driveway with my mom four times every day

TWO: Doctor Who: The Shakespeare Notebooks*, a “collection” of William Shakespeare’s “original drafts” of his famous plays, in which a Certain “Gallivanting Gallimaufry of Gallifrey” apparently played a very important role. Many thanks to my dear friend Abigail for gifting this book to me!

THREE: Yoga class

FOUR: THIS COMIC, oh my goshIt’s about these little aliens who are trying to do “human things,” and it spoofs human culture/rituals/habits so hilariously. I love it to pieces.

Sun tans. They’re talking about sun tans.

FIVE: Camp NaNoWriMo!!! So much more fun and relaxed than regular NaNoWriMo, and I’m already halfway to my goal of 30,000 words in a month!

Five things on my to-do list:

ONE: Complete a fourth draft of Lionhearted

TWO: Write a query letter

THREE: Read more about self-publishing vs. self-assisted publishing

Somehow, I managed to conquer this problem during Lionhearted. But I don’t know if it’ll ever be that easy ever again, haha.

FOUR: Bake enough Trim Healthy Mama cornbread to pack away in the freezer

FIVE: Make a three-layer Pineapple Upside Down Cake for Easter 😀 😀 😀

  1. You’ve been to England!!! I’m so jealous! Why did you go and what did you do there? I have a commemorative tea cup saucer from Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation. (Found it at a thrift store for $3!)

    1. Haha, yes, I’ve been to England! My grandparents took me and my brother as a sort of “graduation present” back in 2013. It was right after Prince George was born, too, so there were commemorative souvenirs all over the place. I want to say I got the little commemorative teacup at either Fortnum & Mason, or Buckingham Palace. I can’t remember. That’s so cool about your Coronation saucer, though! What a fun antique 😀

If I went back to England I’d definitely want to spend more time in the North (specifically the Lake District, though I’d love to visit Yorkshire/Herriot Country) before going up into Scotland. I didn’t get to visit Scotland during my first trip, though while we were in the Lake District we spent one afternoon driving north, just sight-seeing, and my grandfather told me, “Now if you stay on this motorway for about an hour, you’ll get to Scotland.” Ohhh, how wistful I felt, haha!

  2. Four things.

    1. You fascinate me. LOL You are thee most lovely, interesting person! Love reading about your life and your thoughts!!
    2. I thought the same thing when I saw a poster of the new Mary Poppins movie. Well, I didn’t think it *was* you, but I thought she looked like you.
    3. Why do you carry a flashlight in your purse?
    4. I listen to Heidi St. John’s Podcast and she recently had two episodes on yoga. I only listened to a bit of it since I don’t do yoga (ten minutes with a kettlebell is all I can muster) but you might find it interesting.

    1. Oh my, I had to laugh a little bit over that “fascinating” bit, haha! I’m so glad you enjoy my blog, Miss Donna–it does my heart good 🙂

Well, if you think I look like Mary Poppins, then that must be confirmation that I need to cosplay as her one day! I really loved Emily Blunt in the role. And hey, if I give off a Mary Poppins vibe, that seems like a lovely thing.

You never know when you might need a flashlight. It’s a tiny one, too–it fits perfectly inside my purse’s pockets. It makes me feel very prepared!

Hmm, interesting about the podcast! My grandmother teaches our Yoga class–and it’s “Holy Yoga,” so it revolves around a Bible study, not the weird Hindu stuff. I always feel so good afterward 🙂

  3. Making a pineapple upside down cake for Easter is on my list as well! Love this wee little tag! I read your post this morning, and Eva just wrote about it over at Coffee, Classics, and Craziness. LOL, I do believe I need to do this one as well. Also, I want to nominate you for a tag I’m creating: The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag. I’m going to post it in a few days, and I most certainly want to tag you. I love finding bloggers who love the same things I do. Hope to read more posts from you soon! Love reading your stuff 🙂
    With joy in Him,
    Emily 🙂

    1. I would LOVE to participate in a tag! Tags are so much fun–and the perfect posts for those weekends when you’re not quite sure what to write, haha. The title definitely sounds like something I’d enjoy, too: “The Fantastical and Felicitous Fictional Character Blog Tag.” Oh yes, my kind of thing 😉
